How Can I Become a Christian?

Some people think Christianity is a religion that keeps people away from God. The term “Christian” literally means “follower of Christ”. It was first used in Acts 11:26, “and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.”

Unfortunately, in this day and age, Christians have a bad wrap. It’s truly a shame. We seem to be held to a higher standard by mankind. Just because we are saved, we are no longer supposed to sin. This simply isn’t true. We are still sinners and we still make mistakes. We always will, in this lifetime. However, our goal is to become more like Christ by following His teachings and applying them to our own lives.

God truly loves all of us. Every man, woman, and child is special to God. He wants us to know Him as the loving father that He is. Do you ever wonder how you can know God more? Do you ever wonder how you will ever measure up to the standard set in the Bible?

The thing is, we truly will never measure up to that standard. No amount of “good deeds” we do can make us right with God. “…No one is righteous, not even one” ( Romans 3:10). “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).

Becoming a Christian is as simple as ABC:

“Admit” you are a sinner in need of someone to save him/her. Sin separates us from God. We need Jesus to “cross” over to God.

“Believe” Jesus died for you. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus is the son of God and He died for you and me. He longs for us to know Him and experience unity with God.

“Confess” your sinfulness to God and “Confess” Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9-10 says, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

That’s all we have to do. It’s as easy as “ABC”.

Here is a simple prayer you can pray if you truly want to know God more and experience a new life in Christ:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that You died for my sins and arose from the grave. I now turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I receive You as my personal Savior and will follow You as my Lord. Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer, please let me know. It’s so important to take the next step and share what Jesus has done in your life. Try to find a Bible teaching church to attend. It is vitally important to connect with others who believe the same as you.May God bless you and keep you as you continue to learn more about who He is.
